WORKSHOP THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE ACTOR 2017

THEATRE DES GRANDS CHEMINS AND HIPPOCAMPE

THEATRE TOTAL

Théâtre Total is a pedagogical platform whose objective is to make accessible quality training. We work on the autonomy and versatility of the actor at the service of creation, and at a theater seen as a space of total expression.
On the trail of the theater's innovators of the 20th century, such as Grotowski, Barba, Decroux, Meyerhold and Lecocq, we offer training on the fundamentals of theater.

This workshop brings together two of the most important figures in international gestural theater. The pedagogy of Claire Heggen and Thomas Leabhart is imbued with the philosophy of the hidden master Etienne Decroux.
But if their strain is common, their personal search, rich of 40 years of experience, is totally specific and complementary at the same time.
Their teaching goes beyond a style, no method is proposed, it is an accompaniment based on the "universal" principles of theater and interpreting and is aimed at anyone wishing to deepen his skills as actor, director, dancer, singer, etc.

For this workshop we will work in a theater.
This is the Théâtre du Colombier which is close to Cordes sur ciel in the Tarn and which opens its doors for 15 days.
It is a remarkable place, a perfect tool, all equipped with a tray of 10 m by 8 m.
In addition there is a large outdoor garden, a lawn that we can eventually use as a sky stage.
Immersed in a rural environment, this theater is close to Cordes sur ciel which is a popular tourist site, a place of Catharism, a medieval town with centuries-old houses.

We make every effort to ensure that this experience can be as rewarding as possible on the path of art and transmission.

WORKSHOP THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE ACTOR
From 1 to 15 August 2017

Part 1 "BETWEEN BODY AND OBJECT"

Claire HEGGEN (1 to 5 August)

This workshop is based on the actor's technique which work with the basic grammar of the relationship Body-Object and the basics of manipulation. It offers an „entry“ to the vivid body and / or marionette in a structured relationship with the used objects and materials.
- Dicovering the mutual physical relations of object and body working with basic materials and simple objects.

- Creating relations of the artistic object and subject.

- Articulation of the relation between Body-Object in time and space based on decomposition – recomposition.

- Conscious play of the mutuality between Object and Body, Object-Subject, presence - absence, including the viewpoint of the spectator.

- Searching for the sensibility of the actor, of perception, the senses the potential senses, which are trying to get rid of the relation Body-Object, in order to play metaforically alongside the triangle Actor-Object-Spectator.
- Starting with playful improvistations the actor will explore news ways of expression, presence - absence, from becoming invisible to the strongest physical action on the track of poetic, dramatic and „marionettic“ dimensions.

2nd part "BETWEEN BODY AND TEXT"

Thomas LEABHART (6th to 15th August)
Assistant: Fabio Ezechiele SFORZINI

"Alas, I did not say everything, and I said too many words" E. Decroux

"Etienne Decroux asked his students to create new compositions, arranging ordinary movements—rotations, inclinations, and translations—into extraordinary combinations, phrasing quotidian movements in unexpected and captivating ways.
The students will experiment with a work of linking a gestural score with a text of their choice.
Our workshop guides the actor from first simple articulations through a creative process that finishes with a short composition".
